informed
us that on
Monday it
was
awarded
$234
million in
statutory
damages,
the
largest
anti-spam
sum ever
made under
CAN-SPAM
and
apparently
ever under
any law.
This is
also the
first time
damages
have been
awarded
under the
California
Anti
Phishing
Act.

Analytical
Language
of John
Wilkins.
Wilkins
was an
17th
Century
English
scientist.
(He is
also one
of the
characters
in Neal St
ephenson's
Quicksilve
r.)
Wilkins
designed a
Philosophi
cal
Language
in which
the
letters of
each
word give
not just
the sound
but also
the
specific
meaning of
the word.
It would
have been
an amazing
accomplish

Borthwick
who I know
for many
years from
AOL.
They have
built a
product
called
Firefly
which is
rolling
out
tonight at
the Tech
Meetup in
New York.
He just
gave me a
demo and
my first
reaction
was "You
can't do
that,"
then I
asked if I
could put
a demo of
it on
Scripting
News today
and he
said (to
my
surprise)
Yes.
It's so
weird it's
practicall
y illegal.
