MySpace has informed us that on Monday it was awarded $234 million in statutory damages, the largest anti-spam sum ever made under CAN-SPAM and apparently ever under any law. This is also the first time damages have been awarded under the California Anti Phishing Act. The case was won against two notorious spammers, Sanford Wallace and [...]

Beauty is a viviparous oblong fish
Sean McGrath gave the closing pr esentation at XTech 2008 last week in Dublin. He quoted from Jorge Luis Borges's The Analytical Language of John Wilkins. Wilkins was an 17th Century English scientist. (He is also one of the characters in Neal St ephenson's Quicksilve r.) Wilkins designed a Philosophi cal Language in which the letters of each word give not just the sound but also the specific meaning of the word. It would have been an amazing accomplish ment had it worked. Borges su
Demo of Firefly
I'm at the offices of Betaworks in New York, meeting with CEO John Borthwick who I know for many years from AOL. They have built a product called Firefly which is rolling out tonight at the Tech Meetup in New York. He just gave me a demo and my first reaction was "You can't do that," then I asked if I could put a demo of it on Scripting News today and he said (to my surprise) Yes. It's so weird it's practicall y illegal. You can watch people's mouse move around the page, and then chat with the

I recently picked up Ron Paul&# 8217;s “The Revolution : A Manife sto” . I’ve made my way through the first two chapters which do a great job of simply explaining the problems with our g overnment. The ColdFusion 8.01 System Req uirements as shown in the detailed platform support matrix [PDF] indicates that support for 64-bit Linux dist ributions is limited to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 10.1. This fine print appears to often go o verlooked, so I just want to broadcast it a little louder here.
