EMERYVILLE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/12/08 -- Gracenote® and Clear Channel Radio announced an agreement today to provide listeners of Clear Channel radio stations across the country with the ability to access and search for song lyrics from their local stations' websites, giving them a new and exciting way to connect with their favorite music. Gracenote's lyrics service offers the world's largest catalog of complete, accurate and licensed song lyrics.
Beginning today, Gracenote lyrics will be available on more than 800 participating Clear Channel stations' websites. Now, when a Clear Channel listener hears a new song they like -- on the radio, online, or through streaming video -- they can find the lyrics quickly and easily on the station's website and follow along.
Gracenote's lyrics service will be woven throughout Clear Channel's online programming, including the streaming player, Top 20 On Demand lists, exclusive programming and locally created content. Additionally, links to lyrics will be on the stations' home page, playlist and artist pages. By clicking on these links, Clear Channel listeners will have easy viewing access to complete, accurate and licensed lyrics for hundreds of thousands of tracks from more than 200 music publishers, including the top four as well as dozens of prominent independents.
ComScore reports that approximately eleven million unique visitors visit Clear Channel Radio's websites each month, creating a new daypart that keeps listeners connected with their favorite stations. The addition of a comprehensive lyrics library complements Clear Channel's wide array of on-demand content while offering a unique online music experience that allows for lyrics to be viewed while simultaneously listening to the song.
"Our listeners and programmers have been clamoring for lyrics for some time," said Paul Miraldi, Clear Channel Online Music & Radio's senior vice president of programming and marketing. "We see the addition of legal, licensed, and accurate lyrics to our sites as a vital tool to further increase listener engagement with our stations."
"We are pleased to be providing Clear Channel listeners with the largest database of high quality lyrics available in the industry," said Jim Hollingsworth, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Gracenote. "Song lyrics remain immensely popular, and through this agreement we are able to give Clear Channel station listeners easy and direct access to the most comprehensive set of legal and licensed lyrics."
