Krugle, Inc., the code search engine for developers, today announced that it has been certified as a third-party software integration partner by Perforce. The certification tightly aligns Krugle with one of the fastest-growing and progressive software companies.
"We like the approach Krugle has taken, it is simple and will be familiar to Perforce users," says Perforce COO Nigel Chanter. "Ease of use is very important to our users. The design considerations which went into this tight integration will be valued by our customers."
By making it possible to search and index code found in any Perforce repository, Krugle helps enterprise developers easily find code, see updates made to particular code files, see who made them and better understand their own code base. In addition to Perforce, Krugle also directly integrates with other Source Code Management (SCM) systems such as ClearCase, CVS and Subversion, as well as general file system structures. This makes the search for code and the information related to that code more efficient for developers to find and use. This is important because, according to Krugle, developers spend upwards of 25 percent of their time searching for code and related information.
"Perforce certification is another important step as we expand our search capabilities beyond publicly available open source code to searching code within the enterprise," said Steve Larsen, co-founder and CEO, Krugle. "Only a select handful of companies receive the coveted designation as a certified Perforce partner, and we are pleased to be one of them."
In May, Krugle launched a beta version of its enterprise code search appliance. Early beta customers are using the tool to improve productivity, drive reuse efforts and leverage open source code. Krugle free service crawls, parses and indexes over 1.7B lines of code in over 37 different languages, as well as bug databases, blogs and wikis. The same platform drives the enterprise appliance. The ability to interactively browse and explore code in a meaningful context provides more accurate results and reduces the time required to make good code decisions.
Perforce's source code control management (SCM) system manages all types of digital assets, including source code, art, audio, documents and other binaries throughout the application development lifecycle. More than 250,000 developers at 4,400 organizations worldwide use the Perforce SCM System to manage their source code and digital assets.
