Egenera Gets Disaster Recovery Patent
Egenera has gotten a patent on its N+1 disaster recovery, which is supposed to simplify and accelerate moving whole clusters of servers including storage and networking connections to a secure site. US patent no. 7,178,059 is called "Disaster recovery for processing resources using configurable deployment platform."
WS-ReliableMessaging 1.1 a Standard
WS-ReliableMessaging 1.1 is now an OASIS standard. It's one of those John Wayne kinda "we'll get through" even if the software, system or networks fail.
Gateway Recalls Laptop Batteries
Gateway has recalled 14,000 lithium ion batteries that it sold in laptops and as spares back in mid-2003. It says they're a "potential fire hazard." It didn't disclose who made them. Meanwhile, Toshiba says a recalled Sony battery that wasn't replaced burst into flames and burned a desk last month in Britain.
Color Google Green
Google's corporate headquarters in Mountain View, California now boasts what Sharp calls the largest commercial solar electricity system in America. It's a 1.6-megawatt Sharp system and includes roof-mounted arrays covering almost all of the Googleplex' available roof space and two carports where hybrid-driving Google employees can recharge their vehicles, a new Valley amenity.
