Business Objects Buys Hyperion Rival

Business Objects, itself considered a potential acquisition target, is buying Cartesis SA, a French analytics house

Business Objects, itself considered a potential acquisition target, is buying Cartesis SA, a privately held French analytics house that competes with Hyperion, which Oracle just acquired. It’s paying about $300 million in cash.

According to Credit Suisse the deal should improve Business Objects’ financial application portfolio and its C-level ware.

Cartesis did about $136 million last year and Business Objects expects the acquisition to be earnings neutral to slightly accretive the first year while synergies are realized. Cartesis has about 1,300 customers.

An investment group led by Apax Partners bought Cartesis from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2004. Cartesis has been around since 1990.
