Earlier this year, at the LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit in NYC on February 14-15, 2007, event organizers IDG World Expo were proud to announce that "More Than 600 Attendees Flock To New York For The First Ever LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit" - but AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East but AJAXWorld 2007 East has more than 1,000 delegates registered to atend the show as of Monday morning.. Does this tell us more about the relative strength of the technologies involved or about the energy levels of the organizations behind the two events?IDG describes its OpenSolutions Summit as "a regional and vertically focused conference tailored specifically to the needs and interests of IT professionals involved in the deployment of Linux and open source solutions." In announcing last year that LinuxWorld on the Esast coast would no longer be a full-blown event in Boston but would instead be replaced by this mini-LinuxWorld, the show's organizers wrote:
"While LinuxWorld hosted a full-blown event in Boston last winter, the event this year [i.e. OpenSolutions Summit in NYC] replaces the traditional East coast, winter Linux world with a smaller, more enterprise-focused show."

Melinda Kendall, Brand Vice President of IDG World Expo, was hired away from BPA Worldwide in July 2005 to be responsible for LinuxWorld Conference & Expo and Open Source Business Conference. She brought to bear nearly 20 years of B2B media experience including positions at ZD Events, Ziff Davis Publishing and MediaLive International on the problem of the shrinking interest in LinuxWorld Conference & Expo.
