Mobile Commerce News Weekly – Week of April 13, 2014

The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

A Santander subsidiary has added m-commerce to its mobile banking app, in a development it is claiming as the world’s first “superwallet”. The app allows users in Poland to shop at merchants using the app. They can arrange home delivery, send items such as flowers or buy bus tickets in 30 cities.  Read Original Content

Consumers are increasingly shopping on their mobile phones leaving most brick-and-mortar stores behind. That’s why the new app Downtown was launched, to provide a way for local small businesses to participate in mobile commerce. Market research firm yStats has released a new report concerning the mobile commerce sector in Europe.  The report notes Sweden and the United Kingdom have the highest level of mobile shopper penetration in the world, but fall behind when compared to several markets in Asia.  Read Original Content

A new eMarketer industry forecast projects retail m-commerce will increase 37.2 percent to $57.8 billion this year from $42.1 billion in 2013, and reach $132.7 billion in 2018. Amazon has just launched its latest mobile gadget in the form of the Dash, a handheld device meant to make it a great deal easier for consumers to add items to their shopping lists. MasterCard announced it significantly grew its contactless footprint in Europe as transactions more than tripled from 2012 to 2013. Visa Europe can boast about a bit more success as it expected contactless transactions to quadruple in 2013.  Read Original Content

Although it is a burgeoning technology in Australia at the moment, three million Australians are expected to have adopted contactless payment technology by 2015 to make $3 billion worth of transactions in the 2015 calendar year.  Read Original Content
