Ne plus ouvrir le capot !

 

Opening the hoodTous ceux qui conduisaient une voiture, il y a plus de vingt ans, savaient comment s’ouvrait le capot de leur voiture, rajouter de l’eau dans le radiateur, changer l’huile, vérifier les bougies,... Tous les conducteurs avaient l’obligation d’avoir un minimum de compétences techniques avant d’entreprendre un voyage de quelques centaines de kilomètres.

Aujourd’hui, la majorité des personnes conduisent des voitures de grande qualité et très fiables, sans jamais ouvrir le capot ; elles ignorent même souvent où se trouve le levier d’ouverture.

Le monde de l’informatique s’apprête à vivre la même révolution / évolution...

  

L’ancien monde informatique : préindustriel

Cela fait presque 2 ans que je parle dans ce blog de la R2I, la Révolution Industrielle Informatique et des ruptures qu’elle va induire dans toute l’industrie informatique, dans tous les métiers des informaticiens.

Boite a outils voitureLe monde informatique actuel, encore majoritairement dans son ère préindustrielle, nécessite, pour fonctionner, des compétences très proches de la technique. Sur de nombreuses voitures anciennes, il y avait sur le marche-pied une... boîte à outils et les propriétaires avaient impérativement besoin d’un chauffeur-mécanicien pour les accompagner dans leurs déplacements.

Table de routage IPDe la même manière, les entreprises ont encore besoin d’informaticiens très proches de la technique pour mettre à jour une application sur un PC, modifier une table de routage dans leur réseau ou gérer l’avalanche de « pourriels » dans les logiciels de messagerie.

  

Le nouveau monde : R2I : Révolution Industrielle Informatique

Quand la R2I sera devenue une réalité, en 2021, ce sont les fournisseurs-industriels qui auront pris le relais et s’occuperont de l’essentiel des taches techniques réalisées aujourd’hui dans les entreprises clientes.

Du côté des infrastructures, la gestion des serveurs, des réseaux, des espaces de stockage sera assurée par Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft ou quelques très grands acteurs, pour le compte de leurs clients. Les entreprises achèterons, en OPEX (coûts de fonctionnement), en IaaS, Infrastructures as a Service, toutes les ressources dont elles ont besoin.

Open Compute Qanta serverConnaissez-vous Quanta ? C’est devenu l’un des plus grands fabricants mondiaux de serveurs, car il produit les serveurs sur mesure de... Google, Facebook, RackSpace et quelques autres géants du Cloud, en suivant bien évidemment les spécifications « Open Compute Project » établies par Facebook.

Dans un marché des serveurs traditionnels en baisse (Dell, HP, IBM...) les nouveaux acteurs comme Quanta connaissent une croissance estimée par IDC à 45 %.

SaaS ModelDu coté des usages, les applications SaaS, Software as a Service sont développées, maintenues, mises à jour par des industriels du logiciel et les entreprises clientes auront basculé, là aussi, en OPEX, en payant uniquement pour les utilisateurs qui en ont besoin.

Des centaines de fournisseurs, de plus en plus spécialisés, « best of breed », proposent maintenant des solutions SaaS industrielles, prêtes à l’emploi, et que les entreprises peuvent déployer rapidement, en se libérant de l’enfer des migrations !

  

Abandonner des compétences existantes

Passer le relais nuageAu fur et à mesure que les entreprises confient aux industriels du Cloud leurs infrastructures et leurs applications, les activités informatiques « techniques » correspondantes sont prises en charge par ces fournisseurs. 

IT certificationsCeci a des conséquences majeures sur les équipes informatiques internes, qu’il est urgent d’anticiper et de gérer. Des dizaines de compétences, souvent acquises après des années d’expérience, de grands efforts pour obtenir des « certifications » de grands acteurs comme Cisco ou Microsoft, deviennent... inutiles, car elles correspondent à des activités que l’entreprise ne gère plus en interne.

Il est essentiel de faire rapidement le bilan des compétences existantes dont l’entreprise n’aura plus besoin, et d’établir un calendrier réaliste, compétence par compétence, pour éviter de ce retrouver, dans quelques années, avec des collaborateurs sans activités.

 

Développer des compétences nouvelles

Comme toute mutation industrielle, la R2I détruit des emplois et crée, en même temps, des métiers nouveaux, souvent à plus forte valeur ajoutée.

Le Cloud Computing ne fera pas exception à cette règle

Torque pro application AndroidJe reprendrai encore une fois l’exemple de l’automobile. Mes fils n’ouvrent plus le capot de la voiture, mais ils utilisent une application Android, Torque pro, qui leur permet d’avoir en permanence une connaissance très complète de tous les paramètres de fonctionnement du moteur.

ODB II Bluetooth adapterUn simple boitier au standard ODB II, branché sur la prise correspondante, transmet par Bluetooth toutes les informations sur leur smartphone ou leur tablette.

Torque pro screensLa richesse des données disponibles est impressionnante, largement supérieure à ce qu’il était possible d’obtenir avec les voitures anciennes.

Ceci permet de vérifier ce que l’on appellerait en informatique le SLA (Service Level Agreement) du fournisseur !

 

Cet exemple automobile illustre l’une des compétences nouvelles passionnantes que va demander l’arrivée du Cloud et des solutions SaaS. Les équipes internes auront la capacité, bien meilleure qu’avant, de piloter le Système d’information en temps réel, pour vérifier que les services rendus à tous les clients, externes et internes, sont en permanence au meilleur niveau.

  

Résumé : entre nostalgie et modernité

Il existe de nombreux clubs d’amateurs de voitures anciennes, amoureusement entretenues par leurs propriétaires.

Rallye vieilles voitures ParisIls sont heureux de se retrouver lors de rassemblements sympathiques, suivis par des milliers de personnes, comme moi, qui n’ont ni le temps ni les compétences pour entretenir ces objets anciens qui demandent de très fortes compétences techniques pour continuer à circuler.

Verra-t-on un jour des clubs du même style pour les nostalgiques d’une informatique artisanale qui demandait des compétences très pointues pour fonctionner ? Ce n’est pas impossible...
