Steve Altman, Former Qualcomm President and Vice Chairman, Joins the MagnaCom Team as Active Advisor

Mobile World CongressMagnaCom Ltd., a privately held company with a mission to reinvent digital communications, today announced that Steve Altman, former President and Vice Chairman of Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), has joined the MagnaCom advisory board. Mr. Altman is recognized as the chief architect of Qualcomm’s successful IP licensing business, and will now actively assist MagnaCom in developing and executing its technology licensing business. Mr. Altman brings a critical skillset to MagnaCom, as the company enters its next chapter of driving WAM™ technology to become the new modulation of the 21st century. As part of this arrangement, Mr. Altman is also acquiring a meaningful holding in MagnaCom.

WAM (WAve Modulation) is a vastly superior modulation, announced December 2013 and demonstrated to hundreds of industry executives during CES last month. The live demonstration showed a 10dB system gain advantage compared with legacy QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) – the modulation used in nearly all global networks for the past 40 years. A 10dB gain results in over 400% longer reach, 50% lower power, 50% better spectrum utilization and massive improvements in speed, throughput and networks operating cost. WAM applies equally to both wired and wireless communication and is 100% backward compatible with QAM, while costing less than 1mm2 of silicon to implement. Initial deployment is expected in point-to-point applications, such as wireless backhaul, satellite and fiber, followed by broader adoption into standards-based mass markets like cable, DSL, Wi-Fi and cellular. Steven R. Altman served as a member of Qualcomm's Executive Committee for nearly 15 years, providing direction and guidance on the overall Company vision and strategy. Joining Qualcomm in 1989, his leadership roles have included General Counsel, President of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL), President of Qualcomm, Vice Chairman. Mr. Altman was the chief architect of Qualcomm's IP licensing strategy, responsible for licensing its broad intellectual property portfolio for wireless communications, which has accelerated the growth of CDMA technology. In that role, he was responsible for structuring and negotiating Qualcomm’s license agreements, joint ventures and strategic relationships. Under Mr. Altman’s leadership, Qualcomm entered into domestic and international licensing agreements with the world's largest telecommunications and electronics companies.
