Mobile World Congress – MagnaCom
Ltd., a privately held company with a mission to reinvent digital
communications, today announced that Steve Altman, former President and
Vice Chairman of Qualcomm
has joined the MagnaCom advisory board. Mr. Altman is recognized as the
chief architect of Qualcomm’s successful IP licensing business, and will
now actively assist MagnaCom in developing and executing its technology
licensing business. Mr. Altman brings a critical skillset to MagnaCom,
as the company enters its next chapter of driving WAM™ technology to
become the new modulation of the 21st century. As part of this
arrangement, Mr. Altman is also acquiring a meaningful holding in
“I’m truly excited to join Yossi, Amir and the MagnaCom team, and am
energized by their passion and commitment to advancing the
communications industry,” said Steve Altman. “I have been very impressed
with how much the company has accomplished so far in demonstrating the
advantages of its patented WAM technology. I was fortunate to join the
Qualcomm team very early and help build the company’s licensing
business, and I look forward to applying my experience to help MagnaCom
realize its vision of reinventing digital communications.”
(WAve Modulation) is a vastly superior modulation, announced
December 2013 and demonstrated to hundreds of industry executives during
CES last month. The live demonstration showed a 10dB system gain
advantage compared with legacy QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation)
– the modulation used in nearly all global networks for the past 40
years. A 10dB gain results in over 400% longer reach, 50% lower power,
50% better spectrum utilization and massive improvements in speed,
throughput and networks operating cost. WAM applies equally to both
wired and wireless communication and is 100% backward compatible with
QAM, while costing less than 1mm2 of silicon to implement. Initial
deployment is expected in point-to-point applications, such as wireless
backhaul, satellite and fiber, followed by broader adoption into
standards-based mass markets like cable, DSL, Wi-Fi and cellular. Learn
more about WAM technology.
“This is a pivotal point in our company trajectory, and Steve is the
absolute best person to guide us in turning WAM technology into the
'next big thing' in communications,” said Yossi
Cohen, co-founder and CEO of MagnaCom. “By demonstrating the 10dB
advantage at CES, we were finally able to overcome the natural
skepticism by customers, partners and analysts. Our team is now
executing our early partnership engagements, while hiring extensively to
enable an accelerated scaling to the next level. Steve’s proven track
record and right experience, combined with the company’s breakthrough
technology, positions MagnaCom to make a huge impact on the
telecommunications industry. This is truly an exciting time for the

for nearly 15 years, providing direction and guidance on the overall
Company vision and strategy. Joining Qualcomm in 1989, his leadership
roles have included General Counsel, President of Qualcomm Technology
Licensing (QTL), President of Qualcomm, Vice Chairman.
Mr. Altman was the chief architect of Qualcomm's IP licensing strategy,
responsible for licensing its broad intellectual property portfolio for
wireless communications, which has accelerated the growth of CDMA
technology. In that role, he was responsible for structuring and
negotiating Qualcomm’s license agreements, joint ventures and strategic
relationships. Under Mr. Altman’s leadership, Qualcomm entered into
domestic and international licensing agreements with the world's largest
telecommunications and electronics companies. Mr. Altman's contributions

MagnaCom is a privately held technology company aiming to reinvent the
evolution of digital communications. The company was founded around a
whole new, patented modulation technology called WAM™, which can help
alleviate the global spectrum congestion and insatiable demand for more
bandwidth. This impacts cellular, Wi-Fi, satellite and cable TV,
wireless backhaul, cable and DSL modems, long and short haul fiber and
numerous other applications. The company assembled a world-class team of
scientists, executives and advisors from Broadcom, Qualcomm, Motorola
Mobility (acquired by Google), Texas Instruments, Intel, ST
Microelectronics and Passif Semiconductor (recently acquired by Apple).
WAM technology applies to carriers, handset manufacturers, and any wired
and wireless system OEMs, and communication IC vendors who strive to
save spectrum, increase bandwidth, speed and distance or reduce power
consumption. With 15 issued patents and over 50 more pending MagnaCom is
challenging the 40-year dominance of QAM as the modulation of choice for
all advanced wired and wireless systems. For more information, visit www.magna-com.com.

Wearable technology was dominant at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) , and MWC was no exception to this trend. New versions of favorites, such as the Samsung Gear (three new products were released: the Gear 2, the Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit), shared the limelight with new wearables like Pebble Time Steel (the new premium version of the company’s previously released smartwatch) and the LG Watch Urbane.
The most dramatic difference at MWC was an emphasis on presenting wearables as fashion accessories and moving away from the original clunky technology associated with t...
