C Spire Wireless wins 2013 Excellence in Marketing award for best television commercial from Competitive Carriers Association

C Spire Wireless has won the Competitive Carriers Association’s (CCA) 2013 Excellence in Marketing Award for a television commercial created last fall to help launch the “Star User” app expert feature of its industry-leading SCOUT personalization tool.

The Ridgeland, Miss.-based wireless communications provider was honored today during a special awards program at the CCA Global Expo in New Orleans for the best commercial in the television category for its 30-second ‘Camping’ spot. Awards were presented to winners in five categories from among over 130 total member entries, according to Lucy Tutwiler, vice president of Media and Communications for CCA.

“We’re pleased to receive this recognition from the CCA for the most innovative and creative television commercial, which is part of our efforts to educate and inform customers and prospective customers on the benefits and unique advantages of personalized wireless services,” said Suzy Hays, senior vice president of Brand Management and Personalization for C Spire Wireless.

C Spire’s marketing team worked with Y&R NYC, the company’s New York-based advertising agency, to develop and create the television commercial and launch the campaign to educate consumers and promote the company’s industry-leading suite of personalized wireless services.

“We believe personalization is an incredibly powerful platform for the C Spire brand,” said Glen Jacobs, executive creative director for Y&R NYC. “Our goal with the ‘Camping’ TV spot was to bring forward the functional and emotional benefits of personalization, in a great story that everyone would enjoy. We’re really proud of this spot and the overall C Spire campaign.”

SCOUT was launched in September 2011 as an app recommendation and personalization tool and expanded last fall to provide movie, entertainment, music and book recommendations. The app has been downloaded by over 183,000 users on the iOS and Google mobile platforms.

The television commercial was designed to showcase SCOUT’s “Star User” app experts, who review apps and other content weekly and recommend their favorites. Star users rate apps as part of a critic’s program and write and share reviews about SCOUT’s personalized recommendations on cspire.com or social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
