Available on Java.net since early May under the Common Development and Distribution License,
Ajax4JSF is an open-source java.net project that aims to bring Ajax functionality to JSF components. It's a rich-component framework that provides Ajax capabilities in the form of a JSF component library. At the end of the day, it allows developers to create interactive Web applications that can be developed entirely within the JSF model.
Max Katz, an Ajax4JSF committer, sees JSF becoming the standard for building enterprise Web applications.
"There is now a huge momentum behind JSF," he told Artima.com recently in an interview. "About a year and a half ago much development focused around Struts, but that is now moving to JSF. And JSF has become a standard, as part of Java EE 5, whereas many of the other Java enterprise frameworks are not [based on] standards," he continued.
Currently in v1.0, ajax4jsf can be used in a multiutide of ways, summarized at the official home page as:
- 1. Leverage the whole set of JSF benefits while working with AJAX
- 2. Add AJAX capability to existing JSF applications
- 3. Write your own custom rich components with built-in AJAX support
- 4. Package resources with the application's Java classes
- 5. Easily generate images on-the-fly
- 6. Create a modern rich user interface look-and-feel with skins-based technology
- 7. Test the components, actions, listeners, and pages as you are creating them.
