NEW YORK, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Magisto—which provides the easiest way to create and share professional quality personal movies—has reached a milestone of 5 million users. In a swell of consumer adoption, 1 million downloads have taken place in the last month alone. The latest increase in users can largely be attributed to product iterations, new partnerships and market expansion into Asia.
To mark the occasion, Magisto has further refined the art of personal movie making with the introduction of smart photo editing that pairs photos with its core video production features. The new functionality launched today on iOS and an Android version will be available in the coming weeks. Examples can be seen here.
"We've been concentrating on developing easy to use editing and production features that shift social video from the sharing of disjointed clips to full-spectrum storytelling," said Oren Boiman, CEO of Magisto. "The recent growth tells us that we're headed in the right direction. By combining photos, videos and our smart production technology, we're giving people more raw material to tell their stories, and offering greater ease in chronicling their lives."
Magisto has recently expanded into the Asian market by launching a localized version in Japan and entering into a partnership with Softbank-backed Between—a tool to facilitate digital connectivity between couples with calendars, messages and media.
The Magisto/Between collaboration included a new 'Romantic" theme from Magisto as a choice for personal production. Between users were prompted to send a Valentine's Magisto video to their significant other via a direct link to the app. More than 100,000 Valentine movies were made using the new theme.
"Between doesn't support video sharing yet, but it is one of the most requested features among our users," said Erin Chang, in charge of overseas business development at Between. "Collaboration with Magisto helped us improve our service."
Additionally, Magisto recently partnered with The Webbys to create the SmartPhonies One-Minute Movie Awards. Thousands of movies were created and entered into the competition, and voting is taking place through March 10. The first annual SmartPhonies Awards coincided with Google Play's Oscars® promotion that featured Magisto.
