PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/05/13 -- The Anita Borg Institute (ABI), a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computer science and engineering, today announced the winners of the 2013 Women of Vision Awards and the Top Company For Technical Women Award, to be presented at the 2013 Women of Vision Awards Banquet on May 9, 2013.

The Women of Vision Award winners include: Genevieve Bell, Director of Interaction and Experience Research in Intel Labs, recognized for leadership; Vicki Hanson, Professor of Inclusive Technologies at the University of Dundee and Research Staff Member Emeritus from IBM Research, recognized for social impact; and Maja Matarić, PhD, Professor of Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics at Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California, recognized for innovation. This year's Top Company for Technical Women Award winner is Intel Corporation. Intel's impressive forward momentum on almost every Top Company metric set them apart from other companies competing for the award. In particular, Intel has worked hard to retain technical women and enjoys one of the lowest voluntary turnover rates among technical women, holding steady at 2%. According to Dr. Telle Whitney, ABI's president and CEO, this year's individual award winners represent the substantial achievements and contributions that women are making in technical roles.

The 2013 Awards' Criteria

The Women of Vision Awards honor women who have made significant contributions in high technology fields. The award winners were chosen from among highly qualified candidates for their outstanding achievements and important contributions to technology in innovation, effecting positive changes to the way technology serves society, and for their meaningful leadership in the technology industry which extends beyond the workplace.

The Top Company for Technical Women Award recognizes companies for having demonstrated measurable results in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of technical women at all levels throughout their corporations. The data reviewed included the percentage of women working in these positions from entry to executive level, and attrition and promotion rates for technical women, taking into account data for 2011 as well as change over the prior year.
