MILPITAS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/11/13 -- FireEye®, Inc., the leader in stopping today's new breed of cyber attacks, today announced that Enrique T. Salem, former president and chief executive officer of Symantec Corporation, has been appointed to the FireEye board of directors. This brings the number of FireEye board members to eight.
"I have been watching FireEye for a while now and am very impressed with what they have accomplished and how they are redefining IT security. Their unique virtualized security model is exactly what is required in today's threat landscape to help protect companies against this new wave of cyber attacks," said Salem. "I am honored to be part of the FireEye board and am looking forward to working with the outstanding leadership team and board that has been assembled."
Salem brings over 25 years of experience working with high-technology corporations in senior leadership roles including 19 years at Symantec. In addition to serving as president and CEO, during his tenure at Symantec Salem also served as chief operating officer, group president of worldwide sales and marketing, and president of consumer products, among other senior leadership roles with the company. Salem served as president and CEO of Brightmail prior to its successful acquisition by Symantec. In March 2011, Salem was appointed to President Barack Obama's Management Advisory Board.
Salem's background at Symantec complements the already impressive group of industry leaders that comprise the FireEye board and further builds on the company's momentum. The board includes FireEye CEO David DeWalt, former president and CEO of McAfee, Inc.; Ashar Aziz, FireEye founder and CTO; William M. Coughran, former SVP of engineering at Google; Ronald E. F. Codd, former CFO and SVP of finance and administration at PeopleSoft; Robert Lentz, former CISO of the Department of Defense; Promod Hague, managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners; and Gaurav Garg, investor and founder of Redback Networks.
"Enrique is a great addition to the FireEye board of directors. He brings a wealth of IT security market expertise as well as a great deal of experience in the management of large public companies," said Dave DeWalt, FireEye chairman and CEO. "As FireEye continues to grow and expand, Enrique's membership on the board will be invaluable and we look forward to his insight and advice."
