Job Applications will be Available at the Fairground
Hong Kong, Jan 23, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - More than 730 education institutions, professional associations, government organisations and private companies from 20 countries and regions will take part in the 23rd HKTDC Education & Careers Expo, 31 January-3 February, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The expo is open to the public, with admission free.
The four-day expo will feature two main zones, Education and Careers and, new this year, four Career Theme Days: Banking & Finance Day, Supply Chain & Logistics Day, Marketing & Management Day and Civil Service Day. In all, more than 100 events, ranging from seminars, workshops and trial tutorial classes to celebrity sessions, will take place.
On-Site Job Applications
Professional bodies taking part include the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute, the Hong Kong Logistics Association, the Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics Ltd, the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Management Association. These, along with a variety of government departments, will help students and job-seekers gain a better understanding of industry opportunities and career options. A number of government departments and private enterprises, including the Hong Kong Police Force, Kerry Logistics and Ricacorp Properties, will accept job applications at the fairground.
Such private companies as FedEx Express and first-time exhibitor the Independent Commission Against Corruption will discuss their needs and entry requirements for various positions. In addition, the Hong Kong Mediation and Arbitration Centre and two app developers will introduce career opportunities in their emerging sectors. Human resources agencies Adecco, Career Partner and Drake Overload will be seeking candidates interested in part-time or short-term contract positions.
Interview Strategies
A workshop hosted by local theatre artist Priscilla Lai will teach participants the skills needed to succeed in interviews, while the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups will discuss strategies for Administrative Officer and Executive Officer interviews, as well as the Hong Kong civil service's Common Recruitment Examination. Simon Chan, Assistant Secretary (Further Education), at the Hong Kong Education Bureau, will host a seminar, the "Multiple Pathways under the New Academic Structure." Dr Esther Ho, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, and Elvis Ng, Manager and Registered Social Worker at the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, will talk about strategies for further study after the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) Examination. And the Trial Tutorial Class for DSE liberal studies will enhance student exam techniques.
Study Hot Spots
The fair will once again feature four thematic education days, spotlighting study opportunities in the Chinese mainland, Australia, Europe and the United States.
Last year, 971 Hong Kong students were admitted to Chinese mainland universities through the inaugural "Pilot Scheme whereby some Mainland Higher Education Institutions will Exempt Hong Kong Students from Examination for Admission." The scheme continues this year, with participating institutions increased to 70, offering expanded higher-education opportunities for Hong Kong students. The China Education Exchange (Hong Kong) Center, a branch of the Ministry of Education in Hong Kong, will exhibit at the expo for the first time. The Center provides registration confirmation and consultancy services for the scheme.
Representatives of the Australian Consulate-General, Austrian Trade Commission, Campus France, German Academic Exchange Service, Information Centre Hong Kong & Macau and The Office of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macau will host seminars on school admission procedures, preparation for studying overseas, campus life and study culture in their respective regions. Hok Yau Club will also introduce local and overseas scholarships.
Celebrity Sessions
Musician and Hong Kong Film Awards' "Best New Performer" in 2011 Hanjin Tan, SPCA Hong Kong's China Outreach Director Ryan Lau and chef and food stylist Kit Mak will discuss their careers in celebrity sessions.
