American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) Seleciona a O3b Networks para Fornecer Banda Larga por Satélite de Baixa Latência e Alta Capacidade a partir Deste Ano.

A American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) e a O3b Networks assinaram acordos para que a O3b Networks forneça até 1.2Gbps de conectividade de banda larga futura para Internet e outros serviços para a Samoa Americana a partir de 2013.

A O3b Networks está lançando uma constelação de satélites na órbita média da terra que oferece a velocidade de fibra e alcance de satélite para as nações insulares do Pacífico. Como os satélites O3b estão situados em órbita a apenas 8062 km ao longo do planeta, eles estão quatro vezes mais perto do que os satélites geoestacionários que atenderam à Samoa Americana no passado. Esta proximidade reduz significativamente o atraso de ida e volta para chamadas de voz e a navegação na internet. A constelação O3b estará pronta para o serviço no terceiro trimestre deste ano.

Hoje, o território é atendido por um único cabo submarino de fibra óptica. O aumento da capacidade permitirá que a ASTCA e outros provedores de serviços ofereçam mais serviços baseados em banda larga para os habitantes da Samoa Americana.
