Impressive Connections
The Martian Voice Command Watch is a game-changer for smartphone lovers who want a hands-free Bluetooth solution. Initially shared with Kickstarter crowdfunding backers and now rolling out to retailers, it allows smartphone users to stay connected by voice from their wristwatches.
"The watch acts as a hands-free gateway to the world, allowing users to make and receive calls and do anything else that their smartphone can execute with a voice command," said Jeffrey Hsieh, CEO of Martian Watches. "Imagine the convenience and safety of having a text read aloud to you without using a headset, and of sending a response using just voice commands."
Smart Timepiece
The Martian Watch looks like a classic analog timepiece, but once it is paired with your smartphone it puts a powerful wireless microphone and speaker at your disposal. For the many bare-wristed millennials and others who abandoned their watches for their smartphone screen, the Martian Watch is a wearable, ergonomic alternative to a traditional headset or speaker-based hands-free kit. The unobtrusive design enables avid mobile phone users to enjoy the ultimate in hands-free convenience while making a fashion and style statement.
The Bluetooth-enabled watches support voice control on both the Apple iOS ® and the Android ® platforms. With the Martian Watch, users are able to access their phone's commands, including placing calls, sending voice-to-text messages, listening and responding to text messages, setting calendar notifications and reminders, controlling music, and searching the web, all without their phones leaving their pocket or purse.
In addition to voice commands, the Martian Watch face contains an OLED that displays caller ID or an incoming text (up to 40 characters), along with vibration and LED alerts. With the downloadable Martian App for both Android and iOS, users receive incoming notifications, such as Facebook, Twitter, Weather, and Gmail, in addition to trigger vibrations, an LED light flash and a scrolling message readout.
"We've all been in business or social situations where it's simply inappropriate to check your phone. Now, with the Martian Watch, a single vibration means you're receiving a text or social media notification and multiple vibrations signify a call, so it's possible to know what's happening on your smartphone without even looking at the watch," continued Hsieh.
An on-board accelerometer allows one to send an untimely call to voicemail with a shake of the wrist. Furthermore, Martian Watch has an optional leash setting that alerts the wearer with an "out of range" message if s/he walks away from the phone. Finally, Martian will offer a full Android SDK so third-party apps can add more functionality to the watch in the future.
Classic Analog Design with Modern Wireless Technology
There are three different styles of Martian Watch. Bluetooth wireless and voice features aside, the timeless analog look of each of the watches is what sets it apart from the plethora of digital options.
The impressive rectangular-faced Passport watch is an elegant, upscale executive watch. It is styled for men and women who appreciate traditional styling with a black or white face. The white face models are available with a white or black leather band, and the men's black face model comes with a custom-molded black silicone band. This watch appeals to busy executives, high-tech enthusiasts and ardent mobile phone users for whom elegant, classic watch styling is important. The MSRP is $299 USD.
The Victory watch offers all-day style for the individual who wants a sporty round watch face with substantial size and stainless steel polish. The monotone color options include matching face and band combinations of black, white and tan. This workhorse watch appeals to males and females who appreciate its contemporary styling and for whom technology is an important part of their daily lives. The MSRP is $299 USD.
Fun and color flavor the G2G watch style that is designed for women and young adults who love technology and trendy styling. The rectangular watch face is fashioned with lightweight aluminum so it's easy to wear. The bright matching face and band colors mean that the G2G watches will get noticed for good looks as well as its high-tech features. The MSRP is $249 USD.
The new Martian Watches will be sold primarily through two-tier distribution channels worldwide, reaching the end-user at specialty, consumer electronics, wireless carrier, major fashion and select office supply retailers in early Spring 2013 or order at www.martianwatches.com.
