uShip anuncia una inversión de 18 millones de dólares de la firma Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers para acelerar el crecimiento del mercado de transporte online

uShip.com, el primer y más grande mercado online para el transporte, anunció hoy una inversión de 18 millones de dólares por parte de la firma de capital de riesgo Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers en su tercera ronda de financiación. Esta nueva inversión impulsará la expansión de la compañía en nuevos mercados, el desarrollo de su aplicación móvil, y el crecimiento de la plataforma de carga comercial. Maritza Liaw, socia KPCB, se unirá a la Comisión Directiva de uShip.

A través de un sistema inverso de subasta, clientes que necesiten hacer envíos se conectan fácilmente con compañías de transporte. La subasta ofrece al usuario precio competitivos y a los proveedores de servicio la oportunidad de llenar espacios vacios en sus camiones.

uShip, establecida en los Estados Unidos y Europa ha comenzado recientemente sus operaciones en Latinoamérica. “Al tomar la decisión de expandirnos, nos ponemos el uniforme de emprendedores y volvemos a nuestras raíces,” dice Shawn Bose, Vicepresidente y GM de Global Business en uShip. Casi todos los mercados han visto su primera transacción exitosa.

Expansión Global

Hoy, el servicio es ofrecido en 18 países. Desde Ámsterdam, se controlan las operaciones en Europa, donde el servicio es ofrecido desde el 2009. Las operaciones en Latinoamérica se basan en sus oficinas en Austin, Texas. Esta inversión ayudará a explorar opciones relacionadas a la expansión física de la empresa y la posibilidad de abrir oficinas en la región.

Desarrollo Móvil

De acuerdo a una encuesta realizada en los Estados Unidos, y datos obtenidos en otros países, el acceso a internet desde dispositivos móviles sigue creciendo. uShip está mejorando su aplicación móvil para ofrecer a sus usuarios una herramienta que mejor satisfaga sus necesidades a la hora de utilizar el servicio.

uShip PRO

El último producto lanzado por uShip (actualmente en Beta en los EEUU) es la plataforma “PRO” que permite que agentes y empresas construyan sus propias redes de transporte y al mismo tiempo administren y automaticen sus operaciones.

Reality Show

Desde Enero de 2012, uShip representa el motor del Reality Show “Shipping Wars,” transmitido por el canal A&E en los Estados Unidos. En la serie, seis operadores independientes compiten por obtener cargas utilizando la plataforma uShip. A mediados del 2012, el programa empezó a transmitirse en España y Latinoamérica bajo el nombre de “Transportes Imposibles” y “Guerra de Envíos” respectivamente. A principios de 2013, el nombre de la empresa será llevado a millones de hogares alrededor del mundo nuevamente, durante la segunda temporada.
