Dow Jones (a subsidiary of News Corp.) will be moving their three major services to MarkLogic’s NoSQL platform. The first, Factiva, delivers investment and business news to subscribers. MarkLogic will be used to help manage, sort and sensemake of their content. Factiva pulls down traditional news sources, news wire and social networking, to help create knowledge for users.
Dow Jones will also transfer their other properties to MarkLogic, the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Financial Services. Dow Jones believes that MarkLogic will greatly increase the search capabilities of their web-based properties. They believe that MarkLogic’s advanced language support will increase the efficacy of user searches as well.
Alisa Bowen, head of product at Dow Jones said, “Standardized search technology not only provides a better experience for our customers, but also gives us a superior platform for developing new content applications and products across the company.” While Georgene Huang, head of Factiva, stated, “We are exceptionally well positioned to manage ever-growing volumes and types of content ranging from traditional publishers to social media.” Social media data integration is important to Dow Jones and their firms.
Via InfoToday, more here.
We should add that the use cases of Factiva should be of particular note to other information intensive organizations, especially the US Intelligence Community and DoD. Seems like lots of analogies are to be had with the Marklogic Factiva approach and the solutions needed by the IC and DoD.
