Samsung Opens Paris Mobile Store, Eric Schmidt wonders why Apple hasn’t sued and more

  • Samsung Mobile Store opens its doors in Paris, France - This is Samsung’s first retail store dedicated only to its mobile devices. As the top smartphone manufacturer in the world, it makes sense for Samsung to sell their own devices. However, will the store prove out to be profitable? Via Android Community, more here.
  • What’s the Point of Android Skins? - Gizmodo launches into a (reasonable) diatribe against the skins that Android OEMs put on top of default Android. While the OEMs try to pretend that each “custom UI” offers value to the user, in the long run they slow updates and ruin the experience.   • YouTube gets big makeover for iPad - YouTube is a/the killer app for many iPad (and tablet users). It is a key application for Google to keep up-to-date because it increases their ability to consume Google data. The app can now use the AirPlay capability (to beam to AirPlay compatible devices).   • Google now lets businesses build private Android app stores - Google is allowing private businesses to create a “Private Channel” in which IT organizations can offer specific apps to their consumers. Businesses can set out verified or “clean” versions of applications that they wish their consumers to use. This can become a huge value-add for organizations as BYOD becomes more prevalent.   • There’s a new tablet out, aimed at children - The Nabi 2 is a 7″ tablet that is child-resistant and aimed directly at children. It is powered by the Tegra 3 architecture, and is selling for $199 this holiday season. It is only slightly less well spec’d than the similarly priced Nexus 7, but offers a host of protections that make it child friendly. Via Nabi, more here.
  • Karma Launches Its $79 4G Mobile Hotspot And Pay-As-You-Go Data Plan That Reward Users For Sharing Their Bandwidth - Karma is hoping to offer it’s WiMax hotspots to customers, offering pay as you go type pricing. At $10/GB, with sharing incentives built in, it offers a refreshing reboot at wireless hotspots. Via TechCrunch, more here.
  • NSFW: Apple’s Russian iTunes launch plagued with bug displaying escort/pornography sites - It looks like as Apple expands the iTunes store, they are getting hit.   • Eric Schmidt Thinks It’s ‘Extremely Curious’ That Apple Hasn’t Sued Google Directly - The CEO of Google is asking the same question that many of us are, why does Apple keep suing Google’s partners instead of Google itself? It may be they see suing the search giant as biting off more than they can chew, or that Google is a desired “partner” of sorts, but it is certainly interesting. Via Droid-Life, more here.
