40 Million Windows 8 Licenses Sold

It’s reportedly outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades

Microsoft says it's sold 40 million licenses to its new touchscreen-adapted Windows 8 operating system that hit general availability a month ago.

It's reportedly outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades.

For what it's worth, Microsoft also said there were more apps in the Windows Store at launch than any other app store at their launch and since then the number of apps in the Windows Store has doubled.

A few apps in the Windows Store have crossed the $25,000 revenue mark; developers keep 80% of the revenue they make off downloads for the life of their app.

On October 30 Microsoft said it sold four million upgrades in the first four days.

License sales include upgrades, copies shipped on new computers like its ARM-based Surface tablets and copies furnished to corporations with multi-year licenses.
