ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Warroad Public Library will put on its annual "Festival of Books" featuring William Kent Kruger, Ellen Hart and Carl Brookings with their Minnesota Crime Wave performance. They will kick things off at 1pm in this community that is home to Marvin Windows.
The invitation to read my newest novel "Lucky Lyle Ortiz" in the Warroad Library is a moment that is a once in life time opportunity. The invitation extended by Barbara Larson the "Lady of the Library" whose spirit is an undeniable force in this universe was gratefully accepted by me.
At 3pm, on the 17th of November Grant Pylkas will read the first chapter of his new novel "Lucky Lyle Ortiz" and will then take questions from the audience. He will stay over on the 18th to work with a group of children who we hope to encourage, support and cajole into becoming frequent readers. Barbara was insistent on using my teaching background as a spring board to exemplify the possibility that if we teach readers we may end up with some future authors.
You will want to hear the story of a fourteen year old ("Lucky Lyle Ortiz") who losses his only grandparent, whom Lucky thinks is his last living relative. Lucky then figures out a way to keep himself and his two sisters together in the face of insurmountable odds. You will not want to miss this on Saturday the 17th of November at 2:30pm.
The festivities continue on Sunday, November 18th, 1pm to 4pm with a book sale, music, crafters, artists, young entrepreneurs and refreshments. Grant is excited to be the featured author that day at which time he will read a selection from "Lucky Lyle Ortiz" and meet with anyone interested in chatting. If the attendees of the book festival are anything like Barbara, the Librarian, it should prove to be most rewarding.
Barber Larson started the festival twenty years ago when she felt that their location, less than a mile from the Canadian border, inhibited the residents from browsing quality books. Barbara decided that by bringing great literature to her library and allowing her community members to wander though the thoughts and ideas of authors she would expand the horizons of those who participated.
