Sybase has expanded its support for Apple devices with a full mobile device management and security solution for iOS 4. The release of Sybase Afaria delivers proven, market-leading functionality to empower enterprise IT to effectively manage the proliferation of personally and corporate-liable iPhones, while providing a high degree of security to meet the strictest corporate standards.
"The increasing diversity of platforms being incorporated into enterprise environments, such as iPhone 4, have companies scrambling to enable the use of such high user-demand devices while maintaining corporate security policies," said Jack Gold, President of J.Gold Associates, LLC. "Third party management and security applications like those from Sybase enable companies to augment these devices' capabilities by keeping corporate data assets safe and separate from the private user sections of these devices. When such enhancements are deployed, these consumer devices can become capable business productivity tools connected to a corporate environment."
With Afaria, Sybase meets widespread customer demand for simplified, seamless over-the-air delivery of in-house apps and management policies, separation of personal and enterprise information, and improved transparency and control of asset tracking for iOS 4 devices. This release extends Sybase's expansive list of device types supported by Afaria which includes iPhone.
"The new features that Sybase will offer to secure Apple's iOS 4 devices are game-changing for customers using our cloud-ready, managed mobility service," said Caroline Comet-Fraigneau, Head of Mobility Business Unit, Orange Business Services. "Our customers will significantly benefit from the ability to separately manage enterprise data without affecting personal data all while transforming their business through managed mobility solutions that better connect customers and better enable employee productivity."
New features of the upcoming Afaria release support both on-premise and multi-tenant, managed mobility service models, delivering significant customer benefits including:
- Simplified delivery of in-house apps: Over-the-air delivery of in-house apps directly to the iPhone, as well as user-selectable "suggested" apps from the App Store through an Afaria client portal on the iPhone.
- Simplified device management: Powerful remote iPhone management provides IT with the ability to remotely install and remove device policies as well as lock and wipe the device - all without the need for user interaction.
- Improved transparency and control: Accurate and up to date asset tracking ensures complete knowledge of mobile device population - including device network information, connection data, security information, profile and provisioning data, certificates and restrictions, and installed 3rd party apps.
"As personally-liable devices continue to proliferate in the workplace, the need to manage and secure the newest offerings from the industry's leading manufacturers has never been more pressing," said Willie Jow, vice president of mobility marketing, Sybase. "Sybase is committed to meeting strong customer demand by supporting iOS 4 with enterprise device management, further demonstrating our longstanding, rapid support for Apple devices. We look forward to embracing iOS 4 across our breadth of applications, services and development tools."
