We had beautiful weather this weekend in South Florida and the Bahamas. I spent all day Saturday and Sunday doing outdoor activities. I played 9 holes with my friend Roger Strukhoff before he left for Manila, Philippines. Roger and I visited the church on the island Sunday morning. There were only 12 neighbors on the entire island. I had fresh Wahoo for dinner Sunday night that my friend Tom and his wife caught that same day.
I browsed through my in-box in the afternoon and replied to a few emails, including one from my friend Kevin, who forwarded me a quote from Yahoo finance forums. I thought I should share my response to Kevin here on my blog.

Apparently this quote full of offensive and false information is from early January:
" ... SYS-CON is a company that spoofs the identities of its writers and writes stories that hype supposed takeover targets.
"I know of one case, in particular, where a SYS-CON reporter's identity is fake. That would be the identity of the reporter (avatar) known as Yeshim Deniz. It turns out Yeshim Deniz is actually a stock photo called "Friendly Smile." However, that doesn't keep Yeshim from hyping TIBCO stock in a SYS-CON year-end prediction blog. The blog (which was widely read by amateur investors; see, e.g., the Yahoo stock message boards) says TIBCO will be acquired by IBM shortly.
"Coincidentally, SYS-CON happens to publish an online magazine called NOW Magazine. Tibco's Marketing VP Ram Menon is the "Publisher" of NOW Magazine.
"Does anyone else smell that odor?"
No, and here are the facts for the record.
1) SYS-CON does not spoof the identities of its writers or write stories that hype supposed takeover targets. As the founder of the company and publisher, I am either the author or the publisher of each and every article that appears throughout our websites and I am directly responsible for all the stories we have published since I founded the company in 1994.
With this blog entry and as of today we published 1,295,526 articles, that's 1.3 million articles.
I either wrote or approved every single article, news item, feature story, or blog entry.
2) There is no such a thing as "fake authors." We have industry authors / bloggers, staff authors and generic authors. Every author or blogger published on one of our sites is as fake as Pamela Jones or Steve Jobs. As far as the author photos goes, we switched to using stock photos for all staff editors, staff writers, and staff reporters since the day we experienced a stalking incident in the company parking lot eight years ago. We had received plane tickets to Las Vegas from a Yeshim "fan" who later showed up at the company headquarters.
Everyone knows who Maureen O'Gara is and they also know her photo in her profile is a stock image. This does not make her a fake author.
3) Yeshim's blog is not hyping any stock or company. There are dozens of companies whose acquisitions were predicted by dozens of bloggers during the past 15 years. The entire world has been predicting that TIBCO will be sold for the past 10 years. Yeshim's blog is simply referring to a number of links to these sites.
4) SYS-CON is not publishing a NOW Magazine, has never published it in the past, and will not publish it in the future. I don't know who this TIBCO employee is and I don't know what NOW Magazine is.
5) There is no odor to smell. SYS-CON did not receive any money from this company in the form of advertising, sponsorship, or otherwise for the past four years, ever since their participation at the AJAX World event as a conference sponsor through a company they had acquired. Neither SYS-CON nor its employees, reporters, or any staff author owns TIBCO stock, or has been in touch with this company in regards to the blog entry mentioned here.
