New YellowPages.ca(TM) Takes Local Search to New Levels

Geo-relevancy, advanced mapping capabilities and new look help consumers search for local finds online

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 10/26/09 -- Editors note: Photos are included with this press release on Marketwire's website.

Yellow Pages.ca(TM), Canada's leading online directory, has made significant enhancements to both the look and function of the country's most popular local commercial search tool.

The new YellowPages.ca features a cleaner overall design with simplified search criteria and highly intuitive auto-fill functionality that suggests up-to ten locations in the 'Where' box to make searching for local businesses and service providers effortless.

"The new YellowPages.ca is the foundation upon which all of our online capabilities and mobile products will be built going forward," said Stephane Marceau, Chief Marketing Officer, Yellow Pages Group. "With that in mind, we set-out to develop a solid platform with simple navigation and powerful back-end tools that help our advertisers connect with consumers more efficiently, more quickly and hopefully more often."

In addition to boosting the site's overall presentation and functionality, enhancements have been made to refine the relevancy of returned search results and improve the interactivity of maps. As a result, users can search for information by neighbourhood, small city of even local landmark with fewer clicks and more flexibility.

"We believe we have set the bar for online directories and we will continue to evolve the user experience based on consumer feedback and the needs of advertisers," continued Marceau. "From an advertiser's perspective, the changes will ensure that online listings take full advantage of features such as interactive maps, better organized listing information and easy-to-read business details."

Initial test results for the new YellowPages.ca(TM) have been extremely positive with users stating that the site is clean, accessible, well organized and efficient. In fact, 77 per cent of users say the new site is better or much better than the previous version.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
