Mutualink Unveils Smartphone Powered Mobile Interoperable Gateway Device

Mutualink, a Connecticut based company specializing in advanced interoperable communication technologies, announced the public safety industry’s first smartphone powered interoperable gateway device. The mobile handheld interoperable device, named Smartphone Commander™, provides anywhere, anytime field functionality on Mutualink’s secure distributed ad-hoc multi-media interoperable emergency communications resource sharing platform. The Smartphone Commander™ enables on scene incident commanders to create incident defined interoperable communication sessions, invite participants and contribute and remove disparate communication assets on the fly, including two-way radio, video, telephony and data. Mutualink will publicly unveil its new mobile Smartphone Commander™ at the APCO International 75th Annual Conference booth 510, to be held on August 16-20, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Mutualink’s Smartphone Commander™ operates on Goggle’s Android™ mobile platform, advancing Mutualink’s design philosophy of maintaining an open, standards-based architecture. This new product, as well as other leading-edge R&D initiatives, easily integrates into Mutualink’s distributed peer based interoperability network environment, providing significant new capabilities as well as cost savings advantages for individual agencies. The Smartphone Commander™ works on the cellular carrier’s 3G data network or over a WiFi network”, stated Mark Hatten, Mutualink’s CEO.

Mutualink’s unique multimedia interoperable emergency communications platform enables real-time interoperable communications sharing across disparate communications assets and agencies, including two radios, mobile and landline phones, video and data, on a dynamic “invitation” and incident basis. Through its’ unique architecture and operational model, each agency retains control of its communications assets, resolving thorny autonomy and control issues that often prevent or limit multiple agencies from working together.

Participants on Mutualink’s interoperable communication resource sharing network maintain radio, video and other communication resource control by accepting or rejecting invitations, contributing or removing their communication assets and exiting incidents at their discretion. Ad-hoc interoperable communications are instantly established and may be modified in real time based on the need, stage and condition of incidents. Mutualink’s distributed ad-hoc multi-peer based architecture eliminates single agency or “trusted third party control” fostering community wide participation.

About Mutualink, Inc.

Wallingford, CT based Mutualink redefines interoperability by creating networks of interoperable communities that are instantly capable of sharing radio, voice, text, video, data files and telephone communications in a secure environment. The combination of affordability, invitation based control and the simplicity of use changes the way entire communities across the country communicate. Public safety communication and preparedness is evolving into an environment where all critical organizations within communities, as well as among and between communities, are now interacting with one another in seamless ways that are separate and apart from how the general public communicates with the critical organizations during day to day operations and in times of crisis. Additionally, Mutualink’s pragmatic and affordable approach makes interoperable communications accessible to all high-value community assets such as schools and hospitals and places of massed gathering, creating completely interoperable communities.
