An Introduction to My Health 2.0 Blog

Before I begin writing & posting articles, I would take this opportunity to better introduce myself

As I am new to "Ulitzer" I thought perhaps before I began with writing & posting articles, I would take this opportunity to better introduce myself.

On November 6, 2007  I suffered a workplace injury that resulted in permanent disability and chronic pain 24/7. I have also been forced to fight every step of the way with WSIB, aka the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board-(the worker's comp. board) in Ontario, Canada. I was recently asked to describe what I thought of them in one sentence and this was my reply: "Straight from the depths of hell with virulent cruelty, WSIB's primary goal is to dissolve the injured worker into wretched fragments." As I am sure you can ascertain from this statement, my experience with them has not been a positive one.

This injury also meant that I will never return to my most beloved job as a nurse after 20 years in the field. I loved my job and to me, nursing never felt like work. In fact, it felt like visiting. I would go from house to house, patient to patient, carrying out each nursing task while getting to know each of my patient's on a personal level.  I had always heard, "Find a job that you love and you'll never work a day in your life." To me that is what nursing was, now I don't think I could ever express in words just how much I miss it.  Secondarily, my other love was and continues to be writing. Fortunately for me, the injury has not taken away my ability to write.

I have been authoring my blog-which I started a couple of years ago but did not take seriously until this year. I do realize that it is difficult to make a living at writing, however I know it is possible. I do not expect it to happen overnight, although that would be nice...I am willing to put in the necessary work to make it happen.

My blog is written from the perspective of both a nurse & a patient. I am able to take the knowledge I've accumulated over the years, along with my nursing education and my undergrad degree in community health and pass it on to others. I do very much hope that you are able to learn a little something from me & my experiences...for then, I will have achieved my goal.

Until I get to writing the new content here on Ulitzer, please feel free to stop by my blog & take a look: http://missingmythyroid.blogspot.com/

If you like what you see-you will likely enjoy my future content as well. Although-I plan to have the articles here at Ulitzer slightly more technical in nature rather than from a personal point of view such as how the  blog is written.

Thanks very much for stopping by & feel free to visit often.

Take care-Stay well,
Jeannette :0)

I am an injured nurse. I was in the community nursing for 20 years and due to a workplace injury I am now disabled and unable to return to a job that I adored. I have done a fair amount of newspaper & magazine writing and am now looking at writing full-time as an occupation rather than a hobby. Presently, I author a health-related blog written from a dual perspective as both a patient & a health care professional. The focus is multi-faceted including: thyroid disease, workplace injury, chronic pain. depression, and coping with any sort of health related challenge.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities." Cities are a collection of buildings made to provide the structure and safety necessary for people to function, create and survive. Buildings are a pool of ever-changing performance data from large automated systems such as heating and cooling to the people that live and work within them. Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by ...
Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. This is often especially true in financial services, where the legacy environment is many times unable to keep up with the rapidly shifting demands of the consumer. The constant pressure to provide complete, omnichannel delivery of customer-facing solutions to meet both regulatory and customer demands is putting enormous pressure on...
